Overview

Olivine is a striking silicate mineral group, best known for its olive-green color and its most gem-quality variety, peridot. Found in igneous rocks deep within the Earth’s mantle, olivine is sometimes brought to the surface by volcanic activity. In metaphysical and holistic circles, olivine is cherished for its energetic properties of renewal, abundance, and personal growth.

Historical & Industrial Significance

Olivine has been valued since ancient times. Peridot, the gem variety of olivine, was prized by Egyptians and Romans as the “gem of the sun” and is still a popular birthstone for August. Industrially, olivine is used as a refractory material, sandblasting medium, and in the casting industry due to its high melting point and durability. Meteorites and lunar rocks often contain olivine, making it significant in planetary science.
