Overview
Selenite is a transparent to translucent variety of gypsum, known for its luminous, pearly sheen and soft, ethereal appearance. Its name comes from the Greek word for “moon” (selēnē) due to its moon-like glow. Selenite is celebrated in metaphysical and holistic circles for its powerful cleansing, purifying, and spiritual activation properties. It is one of the most popular crystals for energetic clearing and spiritual work.

In modern industry, selenite and other forms of gypsum are used in plaster, drywall, and cement production.
